It is obviously a mint example but how much are walkinshaws now really worth.

I rang muscle car stables. They reckon they have an offer in on the car for 110K but the owner is holding out for more.

If that is the case and is indicitive of current pricing than it makes the car that sold at shannons with 16,000km on it look like a steal at 72K. New i should have bought that car!

Hi Squinlan,

Did you get a chance to have a close look at the walky with 16,000 kms that sold for 72K at Shannons Auction?- I did.

1.The car had a few different shades of Panarama Silver on it
2.The car stunk-like it had been steam-cleaned and left closed (damp smelling)
3.Under the boot rubber-there was a fair amount of surface rust
4. The external dishes of the rims -that are meant to have a machined look -were polished to a mirror finish-(not original)
5. The engine bay had been sprayed with what appeared to be a fairly strong degreaser and left for too longer period- and then had been high pressure cleaned of-This meant most painted surfaces had been stained, original decals blasted off etc.
This car was far from being Concourse!

As you are aware-these cars are appreciating very quickly-What appeared to be expensive then is now considered cheap. In time (6-12months) figures like 110-120K will be considered Cheap!

It begs the question -Where will it stop? Will it Stop?

Who Knows

Cheers & Goodluck

I recon thats sad, people are trying to flog off their cars for as much as possible by what sounds like dodgey means. Where will it end? a car that done 10kms and had a full body respray!!

You're right,

I believe the problem is -Muscle cars have left the hands of geniune Enthusiasts and now are in the hands of people looking to turn quick profits by doing quick cheap makeovers.

Sad but true!

Hi Walkymad

Interested in your comments about cleaning the engine bay with degreaser.

I have had my Waklie for a short time and need to give it a good clean up under the hood.

It's most fairly original under there, but needs some elbow grease. What would be the best way to clean and also freshen the look up of all the rubber hoses etc without replacing them?

I am sure a few others would probably be interested.

With regards prices - when will it stop, your comment who knows is spot on. It's really hard to get a handle on what these muscle cars are worth today. I know one thing they are all worth a lot more now than when I started looking before Christmas, so it makes it harder to get into the market. Wish I bought 2-3 cars I looked at 6-9 months ago. I thought they were a little expensive then, but I was way wrong.

Cheers

Hi Walky SS

Thanks for your comments.

Regarding cleaning your engine bay-it's ok to use degreaser, but in using degreaser you must:

Not use it on a hot engine
Not leave the degreaser on for too long
Not use too much
Try not to get in on your paintwork and if you do- wash it off quickly.
When washing it off, rinse off thoroughly
Try not to wet your stickers and decals-use a plastic bag to wrap around those fragile items.

For really built up grime, spray the degreaser on and lightly agitate it with a paintbrush before rinsing it off.

I use a product called "Yuck Off" to spray all rubber items and plastic items like the Radiator shroud, all hoses to give that new look.

For paintwork just use a cutback and polish if the paint has faded or in poor condition. If the paintwork is in good condition just use a Meguires polish to protect it

Hopefully the above helps

Cheers

I bought my car in dec 05. Before they took off as i wasnt looking for a investment. I wanted a walkinshaw to drive. Things have changed with investers(who are probably still car enthusiast's) also part of the buying pool. Now with climbing prices there is the risk of people trying to sell there lesser examples for higher prices by dodging books, klms etc etc. You really have to be carefull.
As for what they are going to be worth. Could be more, could be LESS.
Thats right less.If we go into a recession like many believe in the next few years what will people sell first to get out of debt? There house(Hopefully not). No they will sell there toys which may then flood the market with spooked sellers. It happened in the early 90,s with muscle cars dropping value after a similar boom in prices.
Then again with the resources boom making many average joe workers incredibally rich. And walkies still very undervalued compared to other earlier muscle cars. They may and probably will have a lot further to go yet.If you are trying to justify your purchase from a financial point of view( Like many have to at current prices)
I have this advice. BUY NOW. They will most likely only get dearer and if they do stall or drop in value and you paid top dollar. Hold on. You got the car you wanted and in years to come ther value will build again and you will feel better about your purchase.Imagine what they will cost you in the next muscle car boom in 15 years. 1 million anyone.

Thanks Walkymad - a project for a free weekend.

Sly - you are right, prices do move up and down, but in the long run they should be ok.

Yeah I bought mine to use, have fun and own a Group A, but have to keep my normal habit of modifying in check, because at the end of the day nothing is forever and we may need/want to sell. Plus I think it's more challenging to get back to orginal condition than it is to modify.

Just have to get something else to satisfy my need for serious speed.
