View Full Version : Opinion on price for Walky
I am thinking about selling my Walkinshaw and was hoping for some opinions on price range.
The vehicle is a stolen recovered Walkinshaw that has been re-stamped with police numbers and re-registered as a v8 Berlina. It has all the goodies still intact (including the original twin throttle body engine), except for the original bonnet, which has been replaced.
The car has been garaged for the last five years and requires a little TLC. It is registered and drives.
Was looking at buying my first home and was thinking about placing it on the market. Would it be unreasonable to be looking at a figure of approx. $30,000+.
Would appreciate your responses and opinions.
Cheers,
Petro

So it doesn't have an HSV build plate/build number? Hard to say what it's worth being registered as a V8 Berlina... would it be classed as a replica or an original?
Unfortunately all the tags were stripped off the car when it was stolen. The thieves done a good job on it. I been in contact with the RTA, REVS, HSV in Melb and even the police (who wouldnt reveal a lot of info due to security reasons) to try and find out or get some authenticity back to the vehicle without much luck. So I guess you couldn’t classify the vehicle as original without the original tags.

Its hard to say. It would be worth more than $30k IMO.
How many KMS? Does it have log books? Original stereo? Gear stick and knob? what condition is the interior and paint?
The vehicle has approx just over 85,000km's. I have an original Walkinshaw steering wheel which requires a resto to outer leather. The car is fitted with a vn group a steering wheel. It has genuine wheels, genuine gear stick and knob. In my honest opinion the exterior and paint is 7.5/10 and the interior is 8/10. Unfortuantely I do not have log books.

That hurts it not having log books or tags.
I would say it's worth about $50k or so, but that's my opinion.
KMS are good, and from the sounds of it, body is pretty good as in interior. It's no log books and tags that hurt it, otherwise it might be a $70k-$90ish car.

Petro I think you'd be lucky to get 30K for it, if its missing build plates. Ive seen interiors, steering wheels and even log books for sale in the last 2 months. This makes identifying originals difficult at the best of time. The only benefit you will have is if you have the original motor, gearbox and diff, then someone looking for a project may be willing to pay more.

I think it will get more than $30k. The one on ebay was getting bids up to about $50k, with no tags.
But it will be much harder to sell.
Makes me want to make a copy build plate of my car, and put the original in the safe!

Why pay $50k when you can have my car for $20k... mine has almost twice the power and both don't have tags...
I struggle to see the value if it could be a replica with a heap of genuine parts

theres no way it's worth 50K, without any tags you cant even prove it was a walky. Its a replica and no one will pay 50 for one, try half that.

There is ways of proving it's a real one, and for someone who can't afford to pay $70k+, it's an attractive option.
If it has genuine engine and VIN, plus the J number, you can ring HSV who will verify if it's a real one or not.
If it isn't proved to be a genuine walky, then it's worth much less than $50k.

Out of curiosity how can you prove its real when the vin, j plate and engine number are gone? I would hate to pay good money for a fake:eek:
Petro, any change of some photos ?

Yeh if all tags are missing, then it's hard to tell if it's real or fake.
Sometimes they only take the SV build plate, but leave the rest.
The J one they sometimes leave too, which is the one HSV really need to verify. So if you have rego papers from years ago, and can match the engine and VIN, and the J number, then call HSV and they can verify.
Even with the engine and VIN, they can't verify without the J number.
Pics would be good.

Ah, so if it has the J, engine and VIN then I can see how it would be worth at least $30k

The J is the most important I think. When I rang HSV about my walky, I just hand engine, VIN and build # and they said, we need the J number.

The J number is the VIN for a VL and won't be recorded on rego papers. Most states limit it at Chassis and Engine numbers with some only recording one of these.

Ahhh that makes sense.
WA has engine and Chassis/VIN, but it's not the J number that gets recorded.
The chassis is a long number.
