View Full Version : Power Steering Rack replacment......
Need to remove and recondition the power steering rack on the Walky as it leaves more power steering fluid on the ground, then is in the reservoir.
Would like to put in a replacement one so as to be able to drive the car whilst the original one is fixed. Dose the Walky take just a standard VL one or dose it require something a little different. Where and whom do you suggest I get one from or just source one locally. Who do you recommend repairs the original one, or its nothing special just go local.
Thanks……Vaughan # 424

I'm pretty sure you will need a VN V8 rack because the normal VL V8 rack won't clear the exhaust

I had a factory 3L rack in my VL with an injected 304 and it cleared the exhaust fine. Not sure if the Walky runs the same headers or not though
Personally I wouldn't bother putting in a different rack while you get the old one repaired. It shouldn't be away for more than a week and I doubt you need your Walky for daily driving

Nah, all walky's run the vl power steering rack. There is absolutely no difference between a walky rack and your standard vl commodore rack. Clearance to the exhaust headers is not an issue, provided they are the originals of course.

i had to replace the rack in mine and I also assumed that they use a normal VL rack, but when I bolted it in it didn't clear the headers. I took it back to the steering place and put it against my old rack and guess what, they're different. The two hydraulic lines come out the back of the rack on a different angle which just happens to be the same as a VN V8 steering rack. Maybe my cars a VN??
