I'm actually doing a mates wedding in mine this weekend!:D
I guess I could do other weddings in adelaide if people are interested? It has been in a few weddings now (including my own ;)).
Please pm me if you are keen and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,
Clint

You need to be careful when doing these things in your own car. If something goes wrong, are both you, your car and the people your driving for covered by insurance?

Not looking to make a living out of it, very selective who I would do it for;)
For strangers I would make them sign a disclaimer.
Here's a nice shot of the cars involved in the wedding I did on the weekend. Obviously my Walky in front :D

I know what your saying, but I don't think the disclaimer would work in court. I have an F class license in WA, which enables me to drive Small Charter Vehicles up to 13 seats, which is hire and reward, but not taxi.

The vehicle also has to be registered as a SCV, which means going over the pits yearly to be compliant, etc.

If your careful who you do it for, then you will probably be OK, but it might be worthwhile checking out the legalities of in in your state, just to be sure, and informed of the laws... A lawyer told me not long ago that "ignorance is bliss, but has no room for mercy in the eyes of the law".

Cheers,
Craig

Thanks for the advice. I have a couple of friends that do weddings in their torana's http://www.slr5000.com.au so I might have a chat to them to see what is involved legality wise.
Cheers

Many years ago I was a member of my local early Holden club with my FX Holden, and the club would regularly be contacted by members of the public looking for wedding cars. Because of the legal implications the club itself always distanced itself from being directly associated with supplying wedding cars, but would still forward on a couple of phone numbers to people making enquiries with an understanding that it would be a personal arrangement with the cars' owners rather than the club itself.

At the time (I'm talking well over ten years ago now) we wouldn't charge much, and I wouldn't have done more than four or so per year, but in those days of cheaper rego it was great because it would cover my yearly rego and insurance costs for what was my weekend hobby car.

We tried to keep it low-profile and not do it very often because we were warned that the genuine hire car companies may kick up a stink and report us if they thought we were taking too much of their business, as they have very stringent rules and high licensing fees to cover. So in that respect we were aware of keeping a low profile due to certain legalities. But one thing that never crossed our minds was the possible legal ramifications against us by the people we were doing the job for if there was an accident or something, like Illusiv was referring to above. I don't know whether I'd take the risk these days.

Having said that, I will be using my Walkie as a wedding car in May. But that's for my best mate and I'll be the best man, so I think I'm pretty safe there! No fee from me, no litigation from him

If you don't charge, then it's fine. There is no "hire or reward", as it's put in WA.

Just imagine if the bride got her high heel caught when trying to get outta the car, and face planted it.... She then could start litigation against the owner.... Not something you want to happen, without a proper business, with registrations & insurances setup correctly.

I'm pretty sure as long as you dont ask for money. you can still be gifted or reimbured for expenses. Then you are not hiring your car out and should not be liable.

I also want to add that I have been trying to get 'dial 24' in Melb for my wedding cars but he seems too busy and uninterested. I had a lot of trouble getting on to him and even after I had future correspondance was ignored.

Now I am begging for anyone else in Melb who is willing to help out for my wedding in Oct 2011. Please.

Just too add too above comments - Had Dial 24 (James) do my wedding in September 2010. Really nice guy and service was fantastic. Drove us around for an extra 1/2hour without further payment and prices is great. Weird you say you cannot get through - i got him first ring. Maybe try after hours. I know he does it as part time. Or email him - think email is on his website. Not 100% sure! Anyways just thought i write my experience - and vehciel is awsome prestige condition and has 3 available. Will post some pics up soon. Highly receommend him - to anyone in Melbourne.
