Yep VP is the engine prefix for a walky. AVL sounds like the start of the chassis number.

yeh thats what i thought.. my last walkie started with vp.
but im going to look at one this weekend that that starts with avl (so im a bit sus) its only done 17000ks and has books and plenty of receipts ..i did a identifiers check and its registerd with a avl engine... so its a bit weird cause i thought all black motor v8's started with v ..
thanx for your help.

Check the engine number yourself. Sounds like someone made a mistake with the engine/chassis numbers to me.... Otherwise it's very sus!

I looked at a car last year that had two engine numbers listed on the rego papers. One of them was listed as a Chassis number. All fixed up with a AUVIS inspection.
Also used to own an old car that had the Model code listed as the chassis number. Shortly after the RTA computerised all their records the stats showed at one stage that there were over 100 Holden's registered with the same Engine number. 12784563
It is amazing how mnay cars out there are still registered with wrong info and in those states that don't have annual inspections of the cars i guess the situation would be even worse.

it makes you laugh the walkie i've been looking at has been on the vic roads system since 2001 with a avl prefix but when we looked at the block it starts with vp..
