Hello,

Just have a general query it would be nice to get some feedback on.

I have a genuine Walkinshaw, build number in mid 300s, certificate of authenticity from HSV, engine number, build number, J number and all plates match. There is absolutely no doubt it is a genuine car.

Car is pretty special, engine bay all wiring hidden, momo wheels, fair bit of engine work, done only mid 40,000s kilometres, excellent condition. Not 100% authentic I know with the extra work, but I like to think it enhances the car, and it is in tip-top shape.

Trouble is the car has been unregistered for several years. During that period another car was registered with the same chassis number, then subsequently stolen, so consequently the chassis number is on the stolen car database.

The cops are saying that Holden have admitted duplicating the chassis numbers, which I am having trouble believing, so therefore they can't wipe the other one off the system as it is a genuine number.

The rego authority may or may not yet register the car with something on the system but not the car to differentiate the two vehicles, however if they do not agree to that, they say the car will have to have the chassis number xxx'ed out and replaced. They may simply add extra letters or numbers to the existing number, instead of the xxx'ing out.

Do you blokes reckon this will alter the value of the car to any degree?

Thanks in advance.

It definitely will effect the value to your car. I would not register it, until you can convince them not to alter your chassis number at all.

Post some pics up of your car!

Dont mean to be suspicious but I'm having troubles understanding how this could occur. If your car had been registered at any time in the past then details on VIN, engine #, chassis # and owners details etc would be known. The fact that the car is unregistered doesn't matter. For a car to take on its identity all these factors would have had to check out?
I'm struggling to see how they could register another car with the same chassis #?

Holden have duplicated Chassis numbers but even so they will still be unique as any duplication will receive extra digits on the end of the number to indicate that it is a duplication. If yours is the duplication then just register it with the extra digits.
If the other car had the duplication then chances are someone stuffed up and registered its Chassis number without including the extra digits. This is very likely as most people looking at these things would be expecting a specific format for the Chassis number and therefore just ignore the extras.
Don't let them alter your numbers. Have your car undergo an AUVIS inspection if required but don't alter anything.

Illusiv,

I will, just as soon as I get my digital camera back from a friend.

Jim,

Basically, I think someone in VicRoads was paid to register a stolen vehicle. The other car was registered some six months after mine became unregistered, and was then stolen about a week after a restraining order on mine was lifted.

The fact that the other car is a normal 6 cylinder VL but shares the same engine number as mine, which of course just isn't possible, gives a clue as to what happened.

Thanks for all replies. Hopefully I will know a little more by the end of the week.

hey there love a walky

Its simple what they have done to your car and enfasizes the fact to trust who you buy a car from and to check the cars history not to mention dont ever give your cars details out....!!!

Someone has got hold of the numbers put them on a mockup walky and the done an insurance job by saying the car was stolen

When you think about it, its the only lodgical explanation

So if i was you i would be writing to people high up in the police and demanding they investigate the issue, as the people who calmed the insurance are the people who did the scam and they should be bought to justice and then and only then will your car be exhoirated from its bad days lol

NEVER CHANGE THE NUMBERS AND DONT ACCEPT FORM THOSE LOSERS AT THE ROAD TRANSPORT AURTHORITY...THEY ARE DRONES....SPEAK TO PEOPLE HIGHER EVEN PEOPLE HIGHER THAN THE MANAGERS......PUSH THE ISSE THEN PUSH MORE THEY WILL GIVE IN!!!!

Thiefs = no care for the limited amount of these perfect examples of australian history
