I would suggest against it as usually they cut away part of the dash to install them as most are too big. Better to run some device (CD Stacker or MP3 player etc) through an RF transmitter.

Better to leave it stock for resale value, I'd rather a loud exhaust on a walky than a stereo any day

I put one in my first walkinshaw #149. I remember it was a Sony head unit but dont remember the model. It didnt require any cutting or modification at all and sat flush inside the dash. I think if your garanteed it wont wreck the car then why not? You can always put it back to original. I still have the stereo and speakers for that car actually

The issue is that VL's have a bracket and bolt at the back that is very hard to undo without breaking something, and then you need to do some wiring modifications to make the new head unit wire up. If you know what your doing, then it's not hard to make a loom up yourself, that plugs into the factory loom and into the head unit and therefore there is no cutting or joining of wires etc.

Stereo installers are generally all cowboys, and they don't take the time to do it properly, so I wouldn't let any of them touch it, unless you know them personally and you stay with the car the whole time, watching what they do. I did that with my alarm & GPS install, and I'm glad I did, as he would have just cut this, and drilled the siren in here etc.

I reckon just grab a ipod buy one of those plugs that you can get , connect it to your ipod then tune it on your car stereo less hassle & damage
